Camera Setting

My Nikon D90 settings

My image are originally merged from 7 or more exposures (sometimes up to 15 exposures!). As you are aware, Nikon D90 can only create maximum up to 3 AEB only. But how to create more then 3 exposure? The answer is – You need to do that manually.

Let me teach you how to do this, but first you MUST have and configure your D90 like this:-

1)      Tripod – This is a MUST, no exception or what so ever.

2)      Configuring your AEB (Auto Exposure Bracketing)

  • Go to Custom Setting (the pencil icon)
  • Go to e:Bracketing/Flash
  • Go to e4:Auto Bracketing Set
  • Select AE only
  • Go back to the previous menu and select Bracketing Order
  • Select MTR>under>over (this is the default setting for this camera)

3)      What you need to do next is setting up the timer so that you don’t have to press the shutter button all the way to takes those 3 shots. This is important so that your camera are not moving while it taking the pictures. (It is a plus if you have the Remote shutter release – but I don’t use this thing. Just use your camera features to the max and save that money for ND filter)

  • Go to Custom Setting
  • Go to c:Timers/AE Lock
  • Select c3:Self-Timer and select self timer delay for 5 seconds (this is sufficient enough for you to let go of your hand from the camera shutter button – lay back and relax). Put the Numbers of shots as 3 (you can put more but it is useless because while using AEB it will shoot 3 pictures only)
  • Once done, you can turn this on by using the Continuous Shooting Button available at the Control Panel (the upper right corner of your camera – the one with 3 stacked paper logo). Push that button (don’t let go) and select the continuous shooting with the timers logo by using the Main Command Dial (back dial) – Select the 3 stacked paper with the letter L and a clock logo)

4)      Now you are ready. To turn on the AEB function, push the BKT button available at the front left of the camera. Push it all the way while using the Main Command dial (the back dial) and select 3F   1.0 (which mean you are going to do 3 frames of Auto Exposure Bracketing with 2 exposure difference). If your camera is showing the value as 3F   2.0 (or other values), you can change it by turning the Sub-Command dial (the front dial) to the left while pressing the BKT button.

5)      Final check – now you have your Continuous Shooting with Timers ON, Auto Bracketing with 3 Frames ON. Set your camera to Aperture Mode and lower down your ISO to 200. Then put your camera to the tripod, set your composition correctly and you are ready to shoot..

6)      Now, push the Exposure button at the Control Panel (the one with +/- logo) – press it down and at the same time turn the Main Command Dial (back dial) and select -3.0. Then press your shutter button to shoot (it will shoot 3 different exposures automatically).  When it finished – press the exposure button again, use the Main Command Dial and select 0. Press your shutter button again to shoot another 3 different exposures. Finally, repeat the same step and select +3.0. Then press your shutter button again to shoot another 3 different exposures...fhew!!

7)      Once completed, you should have total of nine exposures of the same image respectively. That is -4EV, -3EV, -2EV, -1EV, 0EV, +1EV, +2EV,+3EV, +4EV

8)      ~ Finished!

“eerr.. I dont get it”.. “I don’t understand a single word”.. “what are you talking about?”.. “I’m confused”..

Yeah.. I know.. it is hard to explain without a proper image to show you how it was done. No worries! If you don’t understand my explanation above, wait until I’ve completed my eBook. It will describe detail explanations with images so that you are able to follow through step by step ~ from A to Z..

I’ll update again once the eBook is up for sale. At the time being, please subscribe to my blog! :)
